Stockholm Metro Expansion T-Centralen is the given hub for Stockholm's metro. But that has not always been the case. The expansion of the metro actually began on Södermalm. As early as 1933, the Södertunnel was inaugurated and the word ‘Metro’ began to be used. However, it was trams that operated the section - Slussen Södra Bantorget (today Medborgarplatsen) Ringvägen (today Skanstull)
It was not until 1950 that the first real metro line between Slussen and Hökarängen was inaugurated. During the 1950s, the green line was expanded at a rapid pace. Among other things, the Vällingby metro got into Kungsgatan (today Hötorget) in 1952. The newly built station at T-Centralen also meant the start of the investment in art in the metro. 12 artists were commissioned to design the art at T-Centralen and at the opening in 1957, an entire art gallery was on site. Today’s subway consists of three lines, 100 stations and eleven miles of tracks, and transports over one million passengers every weekday. No new stations have been inaugurated since 1994, when the green line was extended from Bagarmossen to Skarpnäck. Last year a new expansion was started: by 2030, the metro will grow with 30 km of tracks and 18 new stations. Stockholm continues to grow and the Metro is catching up. https://lnkd.in/eMxjd6i
